Delaware Coastal Airport is constructing a full-length parallel taxiway for Runway 10-28. Designated as Taxiway D, the 50 ft wide taxiway will provide easy access to Runway 10-28 from the airport’s main apron. The taxiway will contribute to the establishment of instrument approach procedures to both ends of Runway 10-28. The existence of this new taxiway will also allow for development of the infield area of the airport, as shown in the airport’s Master Plan.
The project will construct nearly 3,000 feet of parallel taxiway and three connector taxiways. Stormwater management facilities will be constructed and 1940’s era drainage pipes will be replaced as part of the project.
The Federal Aviation Administration is funding 90% of the $6.1 million-dollar project. Sussex County and the State of Delaware are each contributing five percent.
Completion of the project is scheduled for November 2019.
